Right now, I want to present an article from the Truthout website, at www.truth-out.org, entitled: "Seventy Years Of Nuclear Fission, Thousands Of Centuries Of Nuclear Waste", that gives a very disturbing look at what has been happening over the last 70 years since Scientists first achieved controlled nuclear fission beneath a stadium at the University of Chicago in December, 1942, especially when it comes to the massive amounts of nuclear waste material that has accumulated over that period.... Here is that article, and I do have some of my own thoughts and comments to follow:
Seventy Years of Nuclear Fission, Thousands of Centuries of Nuclear Waste
NTS Notes: What is not discussed is the reasoning for building and promoting Uranium as the power source for nuclear power stations... Many of these Uranium nuclear reactors have long been used for the breeding of Plutonium that is extracted from the waste and used for nuclear bombs...
It is sad that the use of a cleaner nuclear material, Thorium, is never discussed when it comes to achieving safe nuclear power plants... The nuclear experts will never admit it, but the reason is simple: Thorium based nuclear power stations do not produce weapons grade Plutonium as one of its waste materials!
The fact is that even today almost all Nuclear power stations store their waste material in spent fuel pools right on site... These spent fuel pools everywhere are filling up rapidly, and in most nations, there are still no proper plans in place for the disposal of this hazardous life threatening material, as this article clearly shows....
We have seen the results of man's folly when it comes to nuclear power when we look at the Fukushima disaster and the still life threatening situation with its spent fuel rod pools.... And sadly there are no plans in place or even the know how yet to fix this situation..... I again say it is time to stop the pursuit of wars and strife elsewhere and concentrate our efforts on fixing the horrendous life threatening situation at Fukushima Japan first and foremost... That time is long overdue..
More to come
