Important Health News: Mercury Packed CFL Bulbs Now Found To Fry Your Skin!

I use this blog to cover a wide range of subjects.  One of the important subjects is of course major health issues that concern everybody.  One of those concerns has been the changeover in the last few years from safe and proven incandescent light bulbs to extremely dangerous and very poisonous Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulbs.   For the last few years, we have seen governments all over the world mandate the switchover to these deadly devices, without properly warning people of their dangers.  I have made it my purpose to bring forward the argument that this switchover must be halted immediately, by showing everyone the dangers that we face from these incidious devices...

I have already in previous articles shown clear evidence of how CFL's are deadly to human health, due to the mercury vapor that they contain.  I have also shown how the very light from these devices can actually make many people sick.  Now, according to this latest article from the Activist Post website, at www.activistpost.com, we can add the fact that the light from these deadly devices contains high amounts of Ultra-violet light that can actually burn our skins!    I have that Activist Post article right here for everyone to see the evidence for themselves, and of course my own additional comments to follow:

Mercury-Packed CFL Bulbs Now Found to Fry Your Skin

Individuals are drawn to compact fluorescent bulbs due to their environmentally-friendly label, but anyone who has really looked into these incandescent alternatives knows of the numerous health and environmental dangers of CFL bulbs.

A recent study sheds light on just one such concern associated with the ‘green’ CFL bulbs, showing how they are capable of actually frying your skin with UVA radiation.

Following a study in Europe examining the effects of CFL bulbs on the skin, researchers from Stony Brook University in New York conducted a similar study to examine the bulbs’ impact on human skin cells. For the study, the researchers purchased CFL bulb from various locations, and then measured the amount of UV radiation emissions. What they found in every single one of the bulbs studied was “significant levels of UVC and UVA” which was a result of cracks that were present in the coating on the bulbs.

After studying the effects of these emissions on human skin cells, they discovered that healthy skin cells experienced the same damage you would find with ultraviolet radiation.

Similar tests were also conducted using incandescent light bulbs of the same intensity along with the implementation of UV-absorbing Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles, which are found within many personal care products.

While the incandescent light bulbs had no negative effect on healthy skin cells, the researchers couldn’t say the same for CFL bulbs. Professor Rafailovich recounts:
Our study revealed that the response of healthy skin cells to UV emitted from CFL bulbs is consistent with damage from ultraviolet radiation…Skin cell damage was further enhanced when low dosages of TiO2 nanoparticles were introduced to the skin cells prior to exposure.
Despite their large energy savings, consumers should be careful when using compact fluorescent light bulbs…Our research shows that it is best to avoid using them at close distances and that they are safest when placed behind an additional glass cover.
This, of course, isn’t the only issue with compact fluorescent bulbs. In addition to having a potential negative impact on your skin, these bulbs emit toxic chemicals. In fact, only months after it was found that energy saving fluorescent bulbs release carcinogenic chemicals into the air, a new study has found that these harmful chemicals are continually released from the bulbs over a period of weeks to months.

In addition to releasing these cancer-causing chemicals, which are far beyond the “safe” level set by the EPA, these bulbs also release levels of mercury which also exceed the “safe” levels for humans.

NTS Notes:  After all the evidence that I and others have brought forward showing that the use of these devices should be halted immediately, I have not seen any action by anyone to approach their own government officials to immediately halt the further introduction of these devices.  On the contrary, we are finding even more regulations being passed that will shortly see the halt of production of all incandescent light bulbs worldwide instead!

It does trouble me that in the push for a greener Earth, we are instead poisoning our planet even further by the usage of these mercury filled devices that when disposed of will only fill our landfills with deadly Mercury that leaches into our water systems.  Now we find that the light alone is also deadly to human health as well.... When will people ever learn?

As I have said many times before.. Do NOT use these deadly CFL devices in your homes and businesses.  Instead stick to using proven safe Incandescent light bulbs!

More to come

Every time I go into a store that might sell light bulbs I head for that section and snap up every old fashioned bulb I can afford. Once they are sold out, no more will be made.

At this point the higher lights and the multiple light levels are almost impossible to find but not impossible.

In our building we were all given "environmentally friendly" kits with an assortment of these new bulbs. That was 2 years ago and I still have my "kit" in the back of a cupboard somewhere, light bulbs ignored.

I have been pushing the morons who put cfl light bulbs in my office environment to remove them, but to no avail... They say that they are more "environmentally friendly", but I find their light to be atrocious at best and the bulbs seem to not last as long as old fashioned neon bulbs (as many have said)...

I asked one of the maintenance crews what they do with the cfl bulbs when they dispose of them.. He told me that he just dumps them in a dumpster!!! I informed him that he can not, because they contain Mercury.. His reply "Thats news to me"!!!!

So again, we are pumping Mercury filled waste into landfill sites, which is very much not being "environmentally friendly" at all....
