Now comes a new report from www.antiwar.com where the new Commander of American forces in Afghanistan, General Petraeus, is now vowing "We are in this to win" during a recent public ceremony at NATO headquarters in Kabul. Here is the article:
Memo Declares Now a 'Critical Moment'
During a public ceremony at NATO’s headquarters, Gen. David Petraeus cemented his role as the new commander of the Afghan War with a formal assumption of command and an upbeat statement about the prospects of the increasingly disastrous war.
“We are in this to win,” Petraeus declared at the ceremony, “we have arrived at a critical moment.” Petraeus went on to praise his predecessor, Gen. Stanley McChrystal, and to promise no major changes in the war’s strategy.
Petraeus’ comments, of course, are hardly unique, as he is just the latest in a long line of new commanders promising to change the war for the better, and the latest in a long line to declare the conflict to be in a “critical moment.”
Petraeus takes command just days after the deadliest month in the war came to an end, and amid growing doubts that the war will ever come to an end. Though the general tried to put an upbeat face on the matter, exactly what a “win” will look like nine years after the invasion remains unanswered, and the momentum seems to be in favor of the war continuing for many, many more years.
NTS Notes: This man is just like his predecessor, General McChrystal, where he is believing that victory is just around the corner in Afghanistan. Obviously nobody has told the freedom fighting Taliban, who are actually and factually winning the conflict, that America is bent on winning an unwinnable war!
Now where have we heard this claim of "victory" before? If you are saying Vietnam, then you are right. Around Christmas time, 1967, US Commander of forces in Vietnam, General Westmorland, claimed that victory was just around the corner in the lost Vietnam war as well, only to have the TET Offensive of January, 1968 finally ending any hopes of so called "Victory". History is definitely repeating itself in Afghanistan with exactly the same result coming; America losing another war, bleeding to death financially to support this war, and having its dead and wounded coming home to grieving families and widows.....
Vowing "Victory" in another lost war just means that more innocent soldiers will die so that drug profits can be made. People must take their governments to task in ending this war and demand that their troops be brought home, NOW!
More to come
