Curtis Maynard's Murder/Suicide: Something Just Does NOT Add Up!

I was first alerted to the death of fellow blog writer, and freedom fighter, Curtis Boone Maynard, late on Thursday, April 22, and I was shocked. I, like others, has been watching Maynard's blogs and following his writings for years. The idea that he would kill his ex-wife, and then take his own life, was a total shock to everyone, including myself.

Here is one article from, explaining the death of Curtis Maynard, and his ex-wife in great detail. Most of the facts as provided by the Lake Jackson Texas police is presented here, and I want all of my readers to look at this article, and please pay close attention to some facts as presented. My comments will follow:

Man kills ex-wife, then himself

Lake Jackson murder-suicide followed bitter divorce, woman's lawyer says

April 23, 2010, 12:17AM

The Lake Jackson woman shot to death by her ex-husband before he killed himself during a police chase had gone through a bitter, contentious divorce from him and suffered personal attacks from him on the Internet, her attorney said on Thursday.

Melissa Meza, 34, a Dow Chemical engineer, was shot multiple times in the front yard of her home Wednesday night by 42-year-old Curtis Boone Maynard, a registered nurse, who later shot himself. The couple had been divorced for more than a year.

Maynard also shot his 16-year-old stepdaughter, Celeste Morales, in the face inside the home before fleeing in his car. Morales remains in stable condition at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center.

Maynard and Meza's two children, a 12-year-old girl and 2-year-old girl, fled to a neighbor's house and were not hurt, said Lake Jackson police Lt. Paul Kibodeaux

“The 12-year-old picked the 2-year-old up and ran to the neighbor's house — very brave,” Kibodeaux said.

Lenette Terry, the Angleton attorney who represented Meza in her divorce from Maynard, called the slain woman's ex-husband “a nut.”

Divorce final last year

The divorce was very contentious, Terry said Thursday. Maynard “always did crazy things,” she said. “This guy also had some horrible things about her on the Internet and he sent them to her boss at Dow — she brought the stuff in to me and she reported it to the Lake Jackson Police Department.

“She knew she had to get out of this relationship with him. She knew she had to protect her kids. And she was right,” Terry said.

Maynard and Meza met in 1996. They married in August 2005 in Brazoria County, state records show. But the marriage soured in just three years, and Meza filed for divorce in December 2008.

The former couple also had a contested temporary hearing concerning the custody of their children. “She prevailed,” Terry recalled. “He would do things like leave the infant at home when he would go walk to Randall's (grocery store).”

In an angry blog railing against his divorce attorney, Maynard claimed that he and Meza had agreed during their marriage that he would not work on weekdays so he could stay home to care for their youngest daughter, and that he would work only on weekends, which he said put a significant dent in his income. He referred to himself as the “primary caregiver” of the youngest girl and said he had sought sole custody of their two daughters.

The couple's divorce became final in March 2009, but Maynard would not let go, even though Meza had a boyfriend.

On Wednesday, Maynard had been sending text messages to his ex-wife “throughout the day,” Kibodeaux said. Police don't yet know if she responded to him, but she complained about the text messages to a witness.

At 8:20 p.m., neighbors reported hearing gunshots at Meza's home in the 100 block of Post Oak, a quiet, tree-lined street of upper-middle-class houses. The teenager was shot inside the house, while Meza was shot in the front yard, Kibodeaux said.

“She was later shot more times in a different location, but close by, so I would think she was trying to take cover or concealment and was shot again,” Kibodeaux said. Meza had multiple wounds in the head and upper torso, he said.

First homicide in years

Maynard left a shotgun in the front yard, then got in his 1994 Lincoln sedan and drove away, Kibodeaux said. A neighbor followed Maynard's car while on the phone with 911, giving police information on which direction he was heading.

When Lake Jackson police caught up to Maynard's car heading northward on Texas 288 slightly above the 65 mph speed limit, Maynard shot himself in the head with another gun, a semi-automatic rifle, while he was driving, police said.

Maynard's car then veered on to the highway shoulder, where it struck a sport utility vehicle occupied by a mother and her two children that had pulled over to yield to the emergency vehicles. The gunman's car then veered into the grass and back across the highway's two northbound lanes before stopping on the inside shoulder.

The woman and two children inside the SUV hit by Maynard suffered no obvious injuries, but were taken to an Angleton hospital as a precaution, Kibodeaux said.

Police said they have not found anything in writing to indicate that Maynard had planned on taking violent action against anyone, but said they still must review his and his former wife's cell phone records.

“We have seen a few e-mails (from Maynard), but mainly they were character attacks and no indication there would be action taken,” Kibodeaux said.

Meza and Maynard's daughters are now staying with a close family friend, police said.

Child Protective Services caseworkers are meeting with the children's maternal and paternal grandparents about making more permanent living arrangements, Kibodeaux said.

Meza's death marked the first homicide in Lake Jackson in about a decade, the police lieutenant said.

NTS Notes: When I first read this article, and others, that presented the facts behind Maynard's death as a murder/suicide, I did not bother to look too closely into any of the details, or consider that some of the facts did not add up. I like others do not condone in any way what Mr. Maynard did to his ex-wife in any way. However, now upon further investigation of the facts presented, some things just do not make sense!

One of the glaring irregularities behind this murder/suicide, that has also been noted now by other bloggers is the fact that Curt Maynard supposedly was driving at 65 Miles Per Hour in his vehicle and while at that speed, he supposedly took a rifle to his head and blew his brains out! I know that I do not want to upset readers, but please think about this.... How could someone take a rifle to his or her own head and pull the trigger while still being able to drive at 65 MPH??? To me, it seems that he was shot by the pursuing police, and to further make Maynard look crazy, the police themselves concocted the idea that he pulled the trigger on a shotgun himself while driving!

One other strange thing is that other bloggers have noted that Curt Maynard's attitude before he supposedly went and shot his ex-wife did not show any signs of the psychology of an individual that would do such a crazy and suicidal thing. This article says that he was a "nut" but I myself am sorry to tell these experts that Curt Maynard's blogs were for the truth, and he in no way came across as a nut! If telling the truth makes you a nut, then I guess I am in that group for sure! Guaranteed, the pro-government and anti-truth bloggers will be all over this murder/suicide, and use it as a basis of labelling ALL seekers of the real truth as nut cases!

As I have already said... Some things about this murder/suicide do not add up. Hopefully some truth will finally come out about this very sorry story.

RIP Curt Maynard. Let us hope that he is remembered for his fine work in exposing the criminals and his tireless searching for the real truth.

More to come

For my readers:

I have received several comments that contained much foul language that I refused to allow their submission about this article.

Here now, I must state that I, like others, does not condone the actions that Curt Maynard did in terms of killing another innocent person.

This article was to convey my ideas that the information posted in the Lake Jackson news story just did not add up.

Yes, Curt Maynard did kill his ex-wife, that is fact and very sad indeed. However, the events after that led to his own death did not add up. Driving a vehicle at 65 MPH and then pulling the trigger on a RIFLE while driving at that speed is not impossible but seriously awkward and highly improbable. I only question IF it was Maynard that shot the rifle, and the possibility that it was the pursuing police.

It is also important to realize that the MSM and others who want to shut down the seekers of truth have been using the Curt Maynard murder/suicide as a new platform to associate ALL of us in the same light, as nothing but quacks and nuts!

This is why things do not add up....

Again, an apology to those readers who assume I was condoning the actions of Maynard. Nobody deserves to be killed, especially his ex wife!

Last year, Curt mentioned in a post that if anything happened to him, and it was reported as a suicide - to not believe it. He was adamant about never doing that, so I just can't believe that Curt would take his own life.

To NTS, I am Curtis Maynard's wife. I would like to talk to you and give you my version of the story. Please email me.

Northerntruthseeker said...

YOU may in fact be Curt Maynard's exwife, but I cannot give my personal email address out... I did that once before to someone whom I at the time trusted, but he went out and spread it to some very nefarious people, and since then I keep my personal email private...

If you have some info about Curt's death, forward it to me through this comment log, and I will read it and keep it private.....

I have made it clear in the article that I absolutely do not condone Curt Maynard's actions towards yourself in any way. I am against abuse in any fashion and absolutely will never side with abusers....

If Curt suffered from mental illness or mental distress that caused him to have a meltdown to the point that he did such an horrendous action, then your points will be well taken......

Your privacy will be respected at all times, and I would be an absolute idiot by violating that term...

As I stated in the first comment, my apologies if anyone thinks I am condoning Curt's horrendous actions.... I have just been wanting the truth....

You have the floor and can give me the details....Thanks

I have been spending this weekend taking care of other demands....

But I have had the chance to read all of Curt Maynard's wife's report on what she says happened the night that Curt was killed, and I want to thank her for the information....

My heart does go out to Curt Maynard's surviving family members and I do feel for their tragedy.

The entire idea of this article was to focus attention on many of the inconsistencies of Curt's apparent suicide. If there are any more claims that I have done a disservice in attempting to focus only on the inconsistencies, then I am open to comments.

Again, I do not condone in anyway the act of murder. However, as stated in this article, there is so much more to this story that could be told.

If JMaynard wants me to publish any of her comments, she can let me know. I am a man of honor and I will not divulge any of her information sent unless she specifically requests me to do so.

Again, thanks for the information....

I appreciate you keeping to your word, and not giving out my information. You are more than welcome to post the facts related to the inconsistencies of his "suicide" such as :

1. The weapon that Curtis supposedly shot himself with was a AK47. I dont know how you are supposed to shoot yourself in the head through the mouth with an AK driving at 65 mph or more. But this is exactly what is stated on his death cert. Both the AK and a 12 gauge sawed off shotgun are missing from the gun cabinet. I DID NOT see him remove the guns.
2. Curtis sent his ex a payment of 300 dollars that he owed her on a loan ONE HOUR before he killed her.3. Curtis was more than half way home when he supposedly took his own life.
4. The reason the police were able to catch up to him so quickly was because a "man from the neighborhood" followed him in his own car and stayed in contact with the police to notify them where he was.
5. The police DID NOT contact me to tell me that my husband was deceased. That he committed murder. It was I who inquired where he was, that I was given the news. The excuse was... they didnt know he was remarried.
6. Even after it was known that he was married, I was NEVER asked by the police what I knew, what I thought happened, if he told me anything.

Please also post that I DO NOT condone my husbands actions. However, the reason I have contacted you is that I wanted people to know that he was not a bad man, or a monster as he has been portrayed. That he did something horrible and evil, but that one act does not completely define who he was. That he was loved and is missed.

Readers: As a man of my word, I have kept all previous information from JMaynard as private and confidential, and am only putting up her last response... Hopefully with her full approval, because it covers in a more simple point by point structure exactly her information as to what happened the night of Curt's death.

I fully agree with her perspectives and the fact that there is more to this story than what the public was told.

I also do feel for Curt's family and share their sorrow on his loss...

I also agree that I do not condone Curt's actions and his act of murder. I must reiterate that the entire idea of this article was to search for some rational explanations as to exactly what happened!

Is it not the idea of this entire exercise to look for the truth in all situations?

Curtis was a work friend of mine. He made coming to work a pleasant experience. We had many enjoyable and thoughtful conversations. And I saw the pain he went through during his divorce. But I was shocked that he could be driven to such extremes.

I am Curtis Maynard's mother. My son was troubled and I don't condone what he did, but I have lost my son, a daughter in law I liked, and I am devastated. I'll tell you exactly why my son became overwhelmed, and did what he did. He called me crying the day of the divorce. The attorney he paid, Joe Silva, took his money and was totally inept and a scoundrel. Melissa's attorney Lenette Terry is a power hungry woman who obviously enjoys emasculating the man in the divorce. They are both contributory to this family's tragedy and I'll never forgive them. Curtis had many good qualities, was a brilliant guy, and had such a good future ahead of him. I miss him terribly, and my life will never be the same.

I don't know how I missed this mon ami but I just stumbled across it today. WELL DONE! This was great journalism and a wonderful effort on your behalf. I was amazed at how many bloggers bought the official story at face value to be honest. I am so glad you did not.

Yes it is beyond reprehensible what he did,but no one will ever know the truth, least of all his family.

Thanks for doing this.

I have come under tremendous fire, Noor, for just questioning the circumstances behind Curtis Maynard's death...

As I have said, I absolutely do NOT condone Curtis' actions, but only question the facts behind his suicide..

I am Curtis maynard's mother. It has been over a year now since our family tragedy, and things don't get easier. We all miss him so much. His oldest daughter is staying with me in Idaho for a few weeks and we are enjoying her so much. She is coping with it all, but it's hard. Please say a prayer for Curtis..we miss and love you son.

It is now April 2, 2013 and nearly 3 years since we lost Curtis. It doesn't get better, we just learn to deal with it.
His baby son is 2 1/2 and is the image of his daddy. He is loved, and well taken care of but it is so sad he will never know his father..
We interred Curtis's ashes in Memorial Gardens in Coeur D Alene Idaho last June. There was aPatriot Rider Guard, an Army flag ceremony with the Army National Guard, and a Kootenei County Veterans assoc. in attendance. My son is now resting in peace in a beautiful place. Leslie Maynard Jewett

I learned of Curtis through the body of work he left for us, and he has taught me much. His honesty and courage come through in his work, and I must say that you have raised a fine son. Very few people on this planet have the moral fortitude that he did. (If I ever have kids, I would be proud to have a son like him.)

May he rest in peace.

We who are still here will continue the work.

Do you really believe that all of the officers are keeping this secret? including the fire department? the crime lab? EMS? and the witnesses? I mean REALLY?
It is absolutely possible that he fired an assault rifle into his mouth and drove at 65mph, what does the speed have to do with anything? His foot controlled the speed of the vehicle not his hands.
