More Re-Writing Of History: Ethiopian Famine "Aid" Of The 1980's WAS Spent On Weapons!

People of my age remember back in the fall of 1985 about rising concerns of famine and starvation in the Horn of Africa region. We were inundated nightly over the "news" services with pictures of starving children, and people near death in Ethiopia, and Somalia. There was a sudden want for the world to unite in song ("Do They Know Its Christmas?" out of the UK, and "We Are The World" out of the USA, as well as the "Live Aid" worldwide concert) and to give massive amounts of government and private aid money to prevent this famine, and in theory to save millions of people from certain death!

I am not sorry to say that I for one was skeptical from the start having done much research at the time into the real cause of the disaster in that region, which was both the civil wars that were ongoing in the Horn of Africa and the "proxy war" that was the fight between Ethiopia and Somalia themselves. Few people at the time would even dream that the United States and the Soviet Union were fighting this "proxy war" for their control over the region, and they did not give a damn about the civilian famine situation. But the truth fell on deaf ears at the time due to the overwhelming sudden want for the world to send aid to prevent starvation.

Now it is time to get the truth out about that entire part of our recent history. It seems that according to this report from www.upi.com, that the skeptics, including myself, were absolutely right all along! Here is the article, with my comments to follow:

Ethiopia famine aid spent on weapons

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, March 3 (UPI) -- Millions of dollars in Western aid meant for victims of the Ethiopian famine of the mid-1980s instead went toward purchasing weapons, a report says.

The BBC, citing interviews with former rebels and CIA documents, said militant leaders had posed as merchants in meetings with aid groups and diverted the money to weapons purchases as they attempted to overthrow the government.

At the time, the Ethiopian government was fighting rebellions in the northern provinces of Eritrea and Tigray.

Gebremedhin Araya, who had posed as a merchant, was actually a senior member of the Tigray People's Liberation Front, the BBC said.

"I was given clothes to make me look like a Muslim merchant," he said.

Beneath sacks of grain were sacks of sand.

Araya said he gave money he received to TPLF leaders, including Meles Zenawi, who became Ethiopia's prime minister in 1991.

Meles' office would not comment.

The TPLF's former commander, Aregawi Berhe, said in 1985, of $100 million in aid that went through the TPLF, 95 percent went toward purchase of weapons or to support the party within the rebel movement, the Marxist Leninist League of Tigray.

In a 1985 assessment, the CIA concluded, "Some funds that insurgent organizations are raising for relief operations, as a result of increased world publicity, are almost certainly being diverted for military purposes."

NTS Notes: This is so sad and so disturbing. People poured their hearts out at the time in the belief that "aid" was going to prevent famine. The truth has now reared its ugly head that the "aid" money was spent on weapons to kill the people instead! Revolting, isnt it?

Again, this proves that what we see and have been taught about history is not as it seems. One needs to ask: How many other "historical" facts and events are actually lies? We shall see....

More to come

Hiya NTS,

How many other "historical" facts and events are actually lies?

Stop me if you've heard this before - History is bunk.

Do the research on the as-yet uncensored net and you find that what hasn't been completely suppressed has been twisted and spun into a web of lies. Big Lies!

They (guess who) feed us lies 24/7 from the cradle to the grave.

Now, if say, 50 to 100 million more of our people can just wake up to that fact, toss the propaganda tube in the nearest dumpster and begin thinking for themselves for the first time in their lives . . .

Regards.

p.s. I wonder if some wit could change the words of "We Are The World" to "We Are The Zombies"?
