Are Americans Insane? Incandescent Light Bulbs To Be Replaced By Poisonous CFL Bulbs By 2014!

Everyone wants to stop pollution and save the planet from the waste that we generate. But behind every noble cause, sometimes lies a dangerous, and in the case of Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) Bulbs; a poisonous and potentially deadly solution!

CFL bulbs are definitely NOT the solution to energy saving and "green" initiatives. They have been proven again and again to not give off as much light as the standard incandescent bulbs that have been around for over 100 years now. On top of that, these sinister devices contain MERCURY which is by far one of the most deadly health risks to be generated by the switch from Incandescent bulbs to CFL bulbs that has been demanded by most western nations including the United States and Canada!

Here now, I want to present the following article from www.greenerbuildings.com that states clearly that most Americans are not even aware of the impending forced switch from standard incandescent bulbs to CFL bulbs starting in 2013. The results will be devastating to the environment with the release of Mercury into landfill sites, and water systems! Here is that article:

Majority of Americans Still in the Dark About Federal Phaseout of Traditional Bulbs

Published January 28, 2010

CLEVELAND, OH — More Americans are buying energy efficient lighting and are aware of the energy-saving benefits -- but most are clueless about the phaseout of incandescent bulbs that starts in two years.

Those are the main findings of a study by
GE Lighting, whose research results are similar to those of a study conducted by Osram Sylvania.

GE's research showed that 82 percent of 1,519 homeowners surveyed online said they currently use compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) at home -- though apparently not exclusively because 80 percent said they also use

Fifty-two percent said they plan to buy more CFLs in future and are motivated to do so by energy savings.

Yet about 75 percent said they are not aware of the impending federal requirement for greater energy efficiency that will lead to the phaseout of less efficient lighting.

Osram Sylvania found that 74 percent of the people it surveyed had switched to an energy-saving light bulb in the past year and almost 75 percent were unaware of the upcoming changes affecting lighting.

The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 calls for a transition to more energy efficient lighting starting January 1, 2012, when 100-watt incandescent bulbs will no longer be sold. Seventy-five-watt traditional bulbs are the next go in 2013. Sales of 40- and 60-watt bulbs become a thing of the past in 2014.

"We're not sensing a rush by consumers to comply with the looming federal standards," Kathy Sterio, GE Lighting's general manager of consumer marketing said in a prepared statement.

"There's a major shift to CFLs but it's clearly is a matter of educated consumers choosing CFLs for their strengths," she said. "Our marketing, advertising and packaging have espoused the value of energy-efficient CFLs for over a decade."

CFLs use much less energy and last longer than standard bulbs. GE says its Energy Smart CFLs use a quarter of the energy consumed by incandescent bulbs, last as much as 10 times longer and gives off less heat.

People responding to the company's survey said that economic constraints have influenced where they now buy light bulbs. Twenty-six percent said have changed their habits and now favor low-price retailers, dollar stores and club stores.

NTS Notes: This article tries to give the impression that people are OK with the shift to CFL bulbs, but it does NOT state the dangers of these insidious devices. Mercury is a dangerous element that does serious nerve damage in human beings. It is a little known fact that the usage of Mercury back in the days of extracting Gold was a major cause of a neurological disorder in the shape of a madness that became known as "Mad Hatter Disease", which was caused by the consumption and inhalation of Mercury vapours! Mercury can also cause permanent nerve damage, and even brain damage, to the human body!

As I stated before in an article last month, if one of these insidious CFL bulbs breaks in your home, be ready for a hefty bill somewhere in the neighbourhood of over $3000 to properly remove Mercury vapour from your home! Not a pretty picture now, is it?

I am at a loss as to the lack of public outcry in both Canada and the United States about this switch from a relatively safe device to a far more deadly device, all in the name of "saving the planet"! Get the word out, people and let us stop this madness!

More to come

Here you'll find more reasons why CFLs are a bad idea:

http://greenwashinglamps.wordpress.com/

Luckily, there are other options:

* LEDs: Very energy efficient, last a very long time and don't get hot, but are still quite expensive, don't come in high wattages and tend to give a blue-white, pinkish or green-yellow, rather gloomy light. Under rapid improvement though.

* Halogen Energy Savers: Can get quite hot and don't last as long as LEDs but exactly the same brilliant top quality warm-white incandescent light as standard bulbs while using less energy.

Neither of these contain mercury. Both can usually be dimmed, and are not sensitive to cold weather or frequent switching like CFLs.

(And no, I'm not selling anything, just spreading information about alternatives in order to save the planet. )
