New Study Links High Fructose Corn Syrup With Obesity, Diabetes, And Heart Disease

I want to continue my reports on health issues with another devious chemical that is in our every day foods. That chemical is High Fructose Corn Syrup, or HFC for short. It has been THE major source of sugars used in soft drinks since the 1970's, replacing Sugar Cane derived Sucrose. The reason for the switch from Sugar Cane to Corn Syrup had primarily due to cost, and the profits by major soft drink makers since has been enormous. It seems that Obesity is the price we pay for corporate GREED!

Here now, I want to present a report that comes from the website: www.consumerist.com that shows that a new study conducted in California links HFC to an assortment of human ailments, including Obesity, Diabetes, and Heart Disease:

Study Shows High Fructose Corn Syrup May Cause Obesity, Diabetes, Heart Disease

A University of California study on human subjects seems to indicate what food activists have long believed: high fructose corn syrup has special qualities which cause humans to pork up like animals in a feed lot. Oh, and it also may help cause life-threatening chronic diseases. The study was small, but frightening.

Over 10 weeks, 16 volunteers on a strictly controlled diet, including high levels of fructose, produced new fat cells around their heart, liver and other digestive organs. They also showed signs of food-processing abnormalities linked to diabetes and heart disease. Another group of volunteers on the same diet, but with glucose sugar replacing fructose, did not have these problems.

People in both groups put on a similar amount of weight. However, researchers at the University of California who conducted the trial, said the levels of weight gain among the fructose consumers would be greater over the long term.

High fructose corn syrup is in nearly everything Americans eat, from fruit juices to bread to ketchup. It's cheap, but is such cheap sweetness worth it in the long run, when it may actually be killing us?

NTS Notes: I want to put the science behind Fructose as simple here as I can: Fructose may be a sugar and therefore a carbohydrate, BUT it does not readily break down in the human body as easily as Sucrose and Glucose. That being stated, the body has to either expel the Fructose, or store it. The facts are coming out everywhere that the human body stores Fructose that is not broken down, into fatty tissue. That is one of the reasons why since the 1970's, coinciding with the switch of corporations from Sucrose to HFC for food products, the amount of people suffering from Obesity itself has hit record proportions especially in America. Fructose is in almost everything that is consumed, and it is making people FAT! That is as simple and logical a reasoning that I can give....

As stated in other articles about health issues. Use tolerance and cut down on the sugars that you consume in foods. Read labels and check what is in your foods before you buy. Avoid HFC as well as their other poisons Sucralose and Aspartame in soft drinks because those are the major sources of these chemicals getting into the body. If you have a thirst, drink water, preferably non-fluoridated! Keep your body healthy for this fight for our survival.

More to come
