Majority Of Americans "Now" Oppose The Afghanistan War

For years, the real news through internet blogs has been exposing the truth behind the war in Afghanistan. We are there under totally false pretenses, and should withdraw all foreign troops, immediately!

Now it seems that the message is getting through. A new poll indicates that the majority of Americans are "now" opposed to the war in Afghanistan. I have emphasized the word "now" because it is my belief, and the belief of other bloggers, that the majority of Americans have long opposed this war once they found out the truth about the conflict. Only now the mainstream media has to admit that the majority are opposed!

The poll result shows only a "slim" majority, but guaranteed that that number is being fudged, and the actual number of people opposed is quite higher. Here is a great article about that poll put out by the Raw Story:

Support ‘cratering’ among liberals

On the eve of Afghanistan’s historic presidential election, a newly released poll shows Americans’ support for the war is fading.

Among liberals, the decline in support is even faster — support for the war among progressives has plummeted 20 percent since January.

The eight year conflict, which began after the US routed the Taliban from the country in 2001, has bogged down American forces and resulted in hundreds of servicemember deaths. In recent months, the Taliban have seen resurgent success. A US effort to capture Osama Bin Laden has failed.

Only a quarter of Americans say more US troops should be sent to the battle zone. Obama’s new commander for Afghanistan, Stanley McChrystal, has hinted that he may need more troops to beat back insurgent forces.

“When it comes to the baseline question, 42 percent of Americans say the United States is winning in Afghanistan; about as many, 36 percent, say it is losing,” the Washington Post’s Jennifer Agiesta and Jon Cohen write Thursday. “The new poll comes amid widespread speculation that Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal, the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, will request more troops…That position gets the backing of 24 percent of those polled, while nearly twice as many, 45 percent, want to decrease the number of military forces there.”

Obama recently sent 17,000 more troops to the region. Critics of Bush Administration policy say the war effort suffered as a result of diverting tens of thousands of troops to Iraq from Afghanistan.

“Overall,” Agiesta and Cohen write, “seven in 10 Democrats say the war has not been worth its costs, and fewer than one in five support an increase in troop levels.

Among Republicans, 70 percent are said to say the war is still worth fighting, and 43 percent approve Obama’s handling of the war.

But among a broader survey, 51 percent now say the war isn’t worth it. This is up six percentage points since July and up 10 percent since March, the writers note.

“Those strongly opposed (41 percent) outweigh strong proponents (31 percent),” they add.

NTS Notes: It seems that the Internet blogs are having the greatest influence in getting the truth out about Afghanistan. Please continue to spread the message, and let us continue to get the TRUTH out. NATO forces should be immediately withdrawn, and all foreign influences in that country should immediately stop. Let the Afghan people decide their own future. If that future is one without the drug trade, then all the better!

Get the troops out of Afghanistan, NOW!

More to come
